Fr. Marc was born and raised at St. Damian parish in Westland, Michigan. He is the fourth oldest of six children. Since the third grade, he recalls wanting to be a priest! Now, coming up on his 30th year of priesthood, Fr. Marc has enjoyed ministry and teaching in several different contexts. He is familiar with Downriver. 28 of those 30 years have been spent serving parishes between SW Detroit and Monroe!
Fr. Marc attended the University of Michigan, St. John’s Provincial Seminary in Plymouth Township and the University of Notre Dame. He was ordained June 29, 1991, and celebrated his first Mass at Guardian Angels Parish in Clawson.
He served as associate pastor of Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, Lincoln Park (1991-95), and St. Patrick Parish, White Lake (1995-97). Fr. Gawronski was appointed pastor of St. Stephen/Mary Mother of the Church Parish in Detroit, serving there until 2002. He was pastor of St. Mary Parish, Rockwood (2002-05), and St. Mary Parish, Monroe (2005-13), before being appointed pastor of St. Gabriel Parish in Detroit in 2013, where he served before coming to Sacred Heart and St. Cyprian.
For the past 24 years, Fr. Marc has served the Hispanic Community in Detroit and in Monroe. He has taught courses at Sacred Heart Major Seminary and SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary in English and in Spanish. He has served the Presbyteral Council, which advises the Archbishop for three terms, served as vicar of the Monroe Vicariate from 2009-13, and is currently the Chairperson of the Archdiocesan CSA Steering Committee.
Most importantly, Fr. Marc cherishes his family and friends and his 12 year old Jack Russel Terrier, Rosa. He loves music and theatre and enjoys cooking, especially when people seem to enjoy eating what he has prepared. He looks forward to getting to know and serving two faith filled and generous communities in Riverview and Grosse Ile, and working with them to celebrate and share God’s merciful love for us made known in Jesus Christ.
